All About the 2007 Election

The COMELEC has released the following prohibited activities and deadlines relative to the forthcoming Ma4 14, 2007 Synchronized National and Local Elections:

Election Period - January 12 to June 13, 2007

Period for filing Certificate of Candidacy
..... for Senators - January 15 to February 12, 2007
..... for Local Elective Positions - January 15 to March 29, 2007

Campaign Period
..... for Senators and Party-List - February 13 to May 12, 2007
..... for Local Elective Positions and Congressmen - March 30 to May 12, 2007

Prohibited Acts during Election Period:
1. Alteration of territory of a precinct or establishment of a new precinct;
2. Bearing, carrying or transporting firearms and other deadly weapons in public places;
3. Suspension of any local elective officials;
4. Transfer of officers and employees in the Civil Service;
5. Organization or maintenance of reaction forces, strike forces and other similar forces;
6. Use of PNP, AFP or other law enforcement agency by candidates;

Prohibited Acts during Campaign Period:
1. Giving of donations or gift in cash or in kind, etc;
2. Use of armored land, water or aircraft;
3. Appointment or use of special policemen and agents;
4. Illegal release of prisoners;
5. Appointment or hiring of new employees;
6. Creation or filling-up of new positions;
7. Promotion or giving of salary increases, remuneration or priveledges;
8. Construction of public works, delivery of materials for public works and issuance of treasury warrants or similar devices for future undertaking chargeable against public funds;
9 . Release, disbursement or expenditures of public funds for public works and social services;
10. Campaigning on April 5 and 6, 2007.

Prohibited Acts on the eve of Election Day (May 13, 2007)
1. Campaigning;
2. Selling, furnishing, offering, buying, serving or taking intoxicating liquor;
3. Giving, accepting, free transportation, food, drinks and things of value.

Prohibited Acts on Election Day
same as #1 to 3 above plus
4. Soliciting votes within 30 meters of the polling place;
5. Voting more than once;
6. Holding of fairs, cockfights, boxing, horse races or similar activities;
7. Opening of booths or stalls for the sale, etc., of merchandise or refreshment within a radius of thirty meters from the polling place.
