Heritage of Cebu

As the rain started to pour in the City, we headed to Barangay Parian to see the Heritage of Cebu Monument. Located on the original Plaza Parian, the Heritage of Cebu Monument showcases the significant and symbolic events in the history of Cebu.
.
It really is very unfortunate that it is raining in Cebu when I visited the monument so the sky is a bit gloomy. Anyways, let me share to you some of the pictures I have taken of the monument:

Built by National Artist Eduardo Castrillo, this tableau features Cebu’s important heritage sites. I was informed that the original planned cost for this monument was around 3 million only but the actual cost reached around 30 million. Construction began on July 1997 and it was inaugurated on Dec. 8, 2000.
.
The plateaus depicts monumental events and personalities in Cebu's history from the time of Rajah Humabon to the recent beatification of Cebuano martyr Pedro Calungsod. It also features some of Cebu's important landmarks like in the second photo above where the three churches in Cebu during the Spanish times: the Church of St. John the Baptist in Pari-an, the Cebu Cathedral, and the Sto. Niño Church were features. These churches are just blocks away from each other. The Church of St. John the Baptist in Pari-an, however, was reduced to a visita during the Spanish colonial period until it was suppressed and eventually demolished. The Magellan's Cross is also very visible in the monument.
