New Philippine Bank Notes Feature Top Tourist Spots

There is money in tourism... or shall I say there is tourism in money as the new Philippine bank notes feature some of the top tourist draws of our country. Historically, Philippine bank notes are often canvass of former presidents and national heroes with events and places showed at its back that depicts our country's unique history. But the latest issuance of these notes, although retaining the heroes and its colors, have something new to offer. These notes now feature some of the best tourist destinations of the country coupled with rare fauna species that can be found only in the Philippines.

The new P20 denomination will have a younger-looking Quezon at the front and pictures of the declaration of Filipino as a national language, and the Barasoain Church in Malolos, Bulacan. At the back, a picture of the Banaue Rice Terraces can be found, alongside an animal related to that area, the Palm Civet or most commonly known as the Musang.

The P50 bill, at the front, will also have a younger-looking Osmeña and prints of the Leyte Landing and the First National Assembly on either side. At the back, the Taal Lake featuring Taal Volcano and the Maliputo fish are featured.

The American flag that can be found on the old P100 has been removed in the new bank note. Printed instead is a young Roxas with pictures of the old BSP building in Intramuros, Manila, and the inauguration of the Second Republic. The Mayon Volcano in Albay and the whale shark, popularly known as butanding, can be found at the back of the new P100.

The P200 bank note features a much younger Diosdado Macapagal with photos of the Edsa People Power 2001 that elected her daughter, former President and now Rep. Gloria Arroyo of Pampanga. At the back, the bank note was printed with the sprawling Chocolate Hills in Bohol and the tarsier.

The new P500 will have the faces of the country’s two icons of democracy, former President Corazon “Cory” Aquino and former Sen. Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr. It will also feature pictures of the Edsa People Power 1 in 1987 and the Benigno Aquino monument on Ayala Avenue, Makati City. At the back, a picture of the Subterranean Underground River in Puerto Princesa, Palawan and the Blue-Naped Parrot can be found.

The new P1,000, show similar pictures of Santos, Lim and Escoda, as well as photographs of the centennial celebration of Philippine independence and the Medal of Honor, which was awarded to each of the trio. Pictures at the back of the new bank note include the Tubbataha Reefs Natural Park and the South Sea pearl. I haven't been to Tubbataha Reef yet so I do not have a picture to show.

These new notes have just recently been launched in time for Christmas and as a traveler and a tourist of my own country, I could definitely say that its about time to share the beuatiful atrractions of our country through the most-passed medium that is money.

Some info lifted here.

  1. I like the new notes but I hope they also featured the unique floras in our country like the Waling-waling and/or Medinilla magnifica which are very endemic in the country.

Also I hope they choose the endemic Palawan peacock than the nape parrot as it is more unique here in the country.

  10. I love the new P500 bill. It's inspirational in many ways - faith, hope and LOVE. LOVE LOVE LOVE.

The love of Cory to Ninoy is one of the greatest I've read. Seeing them on the 500 bill makes me think of true love.

...and both of them are the most patriotic and honest leaders of our land (IMHO).
