Selfie Sunday : Ron of Flip 'n Travels

Captain Ron's Selfie Moment in Paris
It is the month of February and there is no better way to start this off but a feature from one of the Philippines' Top Bloggers with a shot taken in a romantic city of Paris. Ron Cruz or "the Captain" is one-half of the famed traveling duo who writes for Flip 'n Travels. He has an insatiable passion for traveling fueled by his childhood dream to see Paris. His dreams of reaching Paris finally came true last year but was it what he was expecting? Let the Captain speak...

"Heart pumping, palms sweating and restraining the excitement of reaching the glorious realization of a life-long dream. And there she is–Standing, moored regally and everything around her disappeared into oblivion... So I thought: Let's selfie this muthapacker before I start frothing in the mouth out of excitement.

Is it the best place I've been to? NO. Plastic containers, hardened bubble gums, grimes, cigarette butts and spats of all sorts of bodily fluids strewn all over the pavements, alley corners, main road, parks and even in front of historic monuments. It's a glorified Quiapo with pedestrians in Prada, Dior and Yves Saint Laurent.

Is it my favorite destination? YES. Because I spent my whole life dreaming of being there and the mere fact that I was standing in front of that tower is tantamount to say "If I made it here, I can go anywhere." After all, what make a destination memorable are not the landscapes and world renowned structures but the effort and amount of passion you put into the journey.

This is Paris and no matter how dirty it is or how rude the people are or how imperfect the city may be, it is the representation of my traveling life: Flawed, filthy and kicks ass when posted online. So I selfied my heart out for all I care!"

  2. Oh Paris, Oh Paris,
You're the city of lights and love
I long dreamt of your embrace
    How romantic you are indeed!
Lo..and behold! I'm coming to you soon.

Naks! hahaha, napatula tuloy ako haha

French is the language of love. I imagine waking up in the morning and stroll along its breezy boulevards, gaze upon impressive monuments, ogle at great works of art, and savor its gourmet selection of cheese, chocolate, wine and seafood.

Ron is so privileged to have his feet set forth in its panoramic surrounding. How luck a guy he is.

I smell the scent of love refreshing the air.

    1. I wonder what is it about Paris that turns everyone into Casanova with poetic words and phrases to match :)

The movies perhaps? Or probably those photos that show nothing but love in the tower. :)

      I guess I wouldn't know until I go there :)

  3. So many travelers don't get to visit the destination of their dreams so he is very lucky. It seems that one's travel resume is not complete if one didn't have a check next to the PARIS name on it.

  6. I so love Paris and have been dreaming about it for so long. But when I finally got there in 2007, like Ron I was disappointed but still love it nevertheless.

    1. Thanks Raymond and Mhe-anne, a feel a bit of disappointment but I guess it's a lot better to have experienced Paris for yourself rather than holding on to the feeling of "what ifs". Parang ako :)

  7. Oh my, Paris! I do get dreams that I was in Eiffel Tower with my man hugging me from behind as we look at the crowd below. Blame it on romantic Hollywood flicks. Ron is sooooo lucky to be there.

  9. Speaking of Paris and our high expectations of it.. There's this thing called Paris syndrome. Japanese visitors are the most prone to it. They go there and get heartbroken because the city was below their expectations (and had to be flown back to Japan)!

    1. Aww, that's sad. I guess we Pinoys could handle this things better because we more often see the good side of everything like being in Paris itself is something to be happy about :)

  13. I can feel what he was saying about Paris. And I agree to his remarks about the Paris.

It is not a perfect place. Above all overrated. But Paris has an X-Factor. I particularly find the old buildings that walled its alleys a very fascinating sight. Walking on its avenues, touching the walls of the buildings is a fascinating experience.
