| Basco Lighthouse in Naidi Hills |
Iconic. If there is one structure in Batanes that is often featured either on magazines or websites, it has to be the Basco Lighthouse. This lighthouse is located in Naidi Hills, Barangay San Antonio in the capital town of Basco. The place can easily be reached by a three quarters mile hike from the Port of Basco and is one of the favorite hang-out of both locals and tourists alike.
Location-wise, the lush green hills and the open sea provide a beautiful backdrop for the lighthouse. Moreso, it provides ample protection to fisher folks and ships traversing the rough seas and docking on the Port of Basco.
The Lighthouse is a six-story building with a gallery or viewing deck on the fifth floor. It's conical tower is made up reinforced concrete and its foundation is of rubble masonry or with stone just like the typical Ivatan houses.
Once on top, you will be rewarded with an awesome 360 degree view of Batan Island including including Mount Irayaas well as Sabtang Island in the south of Basco and Itbayat Island to the north on a clear day.

ReplyDeleteLighthouses are always connected with navigation as it guides the seafarers in their sails. I was able to experience climbing lighthouses - but the more definitive of an experience is the lighthouse that separates / connects Saudi from Bahrain. It's beautiful and marvelous. Once you're on top of it, you'll see the vastness of two countries - as far as your eyes could see. It's in an island accessible crossing the "Causeway Bridge" - a bridge built on seawater just to connect Saudi to Bahrain and make easy the transportation.
