Guide in Applying for a Philippine Passport


Need to to apply or renew your Philippine passport? To avoid hassle and to save time, these are the things you need to know. So just follow these simple steps and off to a travel you go.


1.  Confirmed appointment. Set an appointment with DFA by logging-in at their Passport Application Appointment System thru their website. Fill-out an online application form and choose any of the DFA Consular Office nearest you where you will set an appointment. Print your confirmed appointment and bring it on the date and place you have chosen.

2. Personal Appearance.  Be at the DFA Consular Office 30 minutes before your scheduled time because early or late comers will not be entertained. You must have all your original documents and IDs photocopied. Once there, show your confirmed appointment to the guard and he will give your sequence number. Just wait for your number to be called.

3. General Requirements. You need to bring the following with you:
a) Birth Certificate issued by NSO;
b) Most recent expiring or expired passport (for renewal);
c) At least 1 picture ID for verification. List of acceptable IDs are as follows:

  • Government-issued picture IDs such as the following:
    • Digitized SSS ID
    • Driver’s License
    • GSIS E-card
    • PRC ID
    • IBP ID
    • OWWA ID
    • Digitized BIR ID
    • Senior Citizen’s ID
  • Other acceptable picture IDs such as the following:
    • Old College ID
    • Alumni ID
    • Old Employment IDs
d) At least 3 supporting documents. List of allowed supporting documents are as follows:
  • Voter’s ID
  • NSO Marriage Contract
  • Land Title
  • Seaman’s Book
  • Elementary or High School Form 137 or Transcript of Records with readable dry seal
  • Government Service Record
  • NBI Clearance
  • Police Clearance
  • Barangay Clearance
  • Old documents issued at least one year prior to date of application that show correct name, date and place of birth, picture and signature of applicant such as the following:
    • NSO Birth Certificate of child / children
    • SSS-E1 Form or Microfilmed Copy of SSS-E1 Form
    • Income Tax Return
    • Voter’s Certification, List of Voters and Voter’s Registration Record (for newly issued VRR, please attach receipt)
    • School Yearbook
    • Community Tax Certificate
4. There are additional requirements for selected applicants.

For married woman, bring your Marriage Contract in Security Paper issued by NSO or Certified True Copy issued by the Local Civil Registrar.

For minor applicants, personal appearance of applicant or either parent (legitimate child)/ of mother (illegitimate child). Bring also the Marriage Certificate of minor's parents.

For orphaned minor applicants, present an authenticated death certificates of parents from NSO, DSWD clearance, Court order awarding guardianship of the orphaned minor applicant or substitute parental authority.

For abandoned minor applicants, present Court order awarding guardianship of the abandoned minor applicant or substitute parental authority and DSWD Travel Clearance.

Regular Processing Fees which takes 20 working days is Php 950.00 while Express Processing Fees which takes 10 working days is Php 1,200.00
