Year Of The Pig

.
Kung Hei Fat Choi!
.
The Year of the Pig started last Saturday, February 17. Some says its a Fire Pig while others say its a Golden Pig. But whatever they may call it, a pig is still a pig.
.
A pig usually has a negative connotation. Some used the word to the extent of profanity. If someone says "You're a Pig", he usually mean that you are greedy, dirty or fat. Some view pig as nothing but food and has no further use. And some don't even eat pigs (pork) because it is usually associated with heart disease, obesity and other health problems. Worst some people believe that the pig is a demonic animal because the spirit of demons entered the pigs when Jesus castigated them. Poor Pig.
.
On a brighter side, in Chineses culture, the pig is associated with fertility and virility. To bear children in the year of the pig is considered very fortunate, for they will be happy and honest. And since pig is a known eater, expect an abundance of wealth but be careful on your health.
.
Again, Happy Chinese New Year To All Of You!!!

Suggested Answers to the 2006 Bar Questions

Hey guys, the “Suggested Answers to the 2006 Bar Examination Questions” published by the Philippine Association of Law Schools is now available at Rex Book Store for P268.00. Now, the examinees of the 2006 BAR will have a benchmark whether they have gotten the questions right. Although it is not advisable for us to read these answers because they are mere suggestions and does not necessarily mean that we are wrong if we deviate from these answers, still, one cant help gauging his performance in the recent BAR based on the suggested answers published by PALS.

I have personally not yet reviewed all my answers because I try to keep myself pre-occupied with work. I must admit thou that sometimes I couldn’t help myself thinking about the answers I have made in that BAR. Honestly, I feel that the last BAR examinations were intended more to those persons with photographic memories (enumerate, define) rather than to those who interpret and analyze and apply the law. Further, other questions seem to be tests of what the examinees do not know instead of what they know and there were even two questions in Political and Public International Law that only contestants in Game Ka Na Ba? were fit to answer.

Further, there are several questions in the recent BAR that were not included in the coverage such as those questions in Taxation and Mercantile Law. And several examinees cried on how long the Criminal Law Examination was.
Overall, the lament of majority of us examinees is that the questions asked in the 2006 Bar Examinations seek to test not so much the power of analysis of the examine, but the examinee’s retention and memory. Therefore, law students have really no choice but to memorize the provisions of the law because BAR exams lay more stress on memory work rather than reasoning. And since passing the BAR is an indispensable step in becoming lawyers, then we have no choice but to memorize the law.

A word of caution thou: my profs often tell me that answering questions in the bar is not based entirely on how well you know the law but also on how you present your answers: the neatness, the observance of margins and the legibility of your penmanship. So, we should not despair if our answers do not totally agree with PALS for wrong answers may still be given credits if presented well.

Again, to my fellow examinees, a little over a month na lang and malalaman na natin results ng BAR. May GOD bless us all.

TUTA vs GAGO - A Real Mature Philippine Politics

Its mud-slinging and bickering at its best. The administration candidates call the Grand and Broad Opposition as GAGO (Grand Alliance of Genuine Opposition). In return, the oppositionist call the administration team as TUTA (Team Unity, Team Arroyo). But whatever they may call each other, we are still waiting for them to present their platforms and their agenda. As of today, the following senatoriables have submitted their certificate of candidacy.

Genuine Oppositions: Loren Legarda, Panfilo Lacson, Francis Escudero, Alan Peter Cayetano, John Osmena, Benigno Aquino III, Aquilino Pimentel III, Sonia Roco, Antonio Trillanes, Nikki Coseteng, Manny Villar, Francis Pangilinan

Team Unity: Michael Defensor, Juan Miguel Zubiri, Adgardo Angara, Ralph Recto, Joker Arroyo, Chavit Singson, Tito Sotto, Tessi Oreta, Prospero Pichay, Vicente Magsaysay, Jericho Patilla, Cesar Montano

Independent Candidates: Gringo Honasan, Richard Gomez, Oliver Lozano, Zosimo Paredes, Danton Remoto, Elly Pamatong

We all dream of the time that Philippine politics will mature. With these batch of candidates, well, we should keep on dreaming.

Senatoriables

The campaign period for Senators officially starts today. And we can see their faces and adz now in TV and other medium. In fact, in our dinner discussion last night, the main topic is who are we going to vote for senators in this coming election. There are seven of us in the table last night but only five of us are voters. And if the election is to be held today, we agreed to elect the following?

1. Francis Escudero - he is a lawyer and a lawmaker should know the law.
2. Alan Peter Cayetano - he is young, intelligent and we love his antics.
3. Koko Pimentel - a lawyer and has a good tract record.
4. Noynoy Aquino - everybody loves Kris (hehe), he is also a lawyer and an inteeligent guy.
5. Joker Arroyo - he is not in anyway directly related to PGMA.
6. Kiko Pangilinan - he is a lawyer and he has already proven his worth before.
7. Zosimo Paredes - although he runs as an independent candidate and his winningability is questionable, we believe that the man has principles.
8. Manny Villar - he is rich and we are still not losing our hopes on what he can do for our country.
9. Sonia Roco - we always vote for her husband, we just hope she can continue his advocacy.
10. Loren Legarda - come on, she should be our vice president.
11. Ralph Recto - we laud him for challenging the "kiss of death" although not a unanimous choice he still wound up on our list. (mom is a vilmanian kasi and we luv our mom)
12. Edgardo Angara - we must admit he is intelligent and the senate still needs brilliant mind.

Other candidates discussed where Lacson, Osmena, Trillanes, Coseteng, Defensor, Zubiri, Singson, Sotto, Oreta, Pichay, Magsaysay, Petilla, Kiram, Gomez, Lozano, Pamatong, Honasan and Remoto.

Renovation

Welcome to my newly renovated office!!!
I am very proud of my new office because I am hands-on on every aspect of its renovation. From the selection of materials to the design of the furnitures and fixtures. The theme is somewhat of an old school type where hues of yellow and orange abound. And then we have put several indoor plants to have that feel of nature and of course for that much needed oxygen rush.
This is where I receive my guests!
(The narra sofa is provided by the office but the puzzle painting, the plants,
the 3 pillows and the coffee table set are all added by me)

Near the door are my collections of dogs.
(most are given by my friends)

Dull Office Machines!
(Of course I added the painting and the plants)

My table.
(I also added d'greens and some figurines)

To the back... to the back...
(My collections of books and other mementos from my travels)

Valentines Day

I will never get myself up for this. My heart died years ago. I do not know how to get this thing to be over with. And this coming valentines day, I will wear black...again!
