Malamawi Hill Top

I don't know if your are with me on this one but my wandering mind kept noticing the human nature (or urge)of always wanting to be on top. Be it on a corporate ladder or in a class full of people, it seems that everyone wants to be on top.

Same is true when you are traveling. Whenever you venture or explore a new place, we often ask where is its vantage point - a place where we can have an entire view of an island, or a cove, or a town.

Malamawi Island is no exception. Having a combination of diverse terrain that includes forest, marsh, coves, hills, beach shores and stilt houses, this island definitely has one amazing scene if viewed from the top.

So, after spending sometime in the White Beach, the group decided to check-out Malamawi's highest point. This time, we rode an elf (mini-truck), as opposed to a 4x4 Jeep that fetched us to White Beach. As usual, there are two Military Escorts to protect us, err, the truck, I mean.

It's about a thirty minute-ride from the White Beach to the Hill Top on bumpy, narrow ride. I was amused on how our truck managed to fit in on those narrow foot trails specially those paths with edgy cliffs where an improper maneuvering could spiral us downhill.

By the way, I coined the term Hill Top (not that it's original :p) to refer to Malamawi's higest point. The name of the place slipped my mind but Dong Ho (The Man from Basilan doing a hand stand below) could help us with that.

From the top, you could see views of the White Beach shoreline, marshland and mangroves, the open sea and the stilt houses of Paniyagan. There are wooden benches in there too or you can just sit on a grassy field while enjoying the view below. Locals claim that this is the best spot to witness the sunrise but for security reasons, only few tourists dare pitch a tent overnight and wait for the sunrise.

They say it's lonely at the top. But if you will have awesome views of the land below with that distinct feeling of accomplishment for having been there, then, maybe, it's not a lonely place after all.

about being on top, well, the view is definitely more interesting from the top. there's also a sense of fulfillment when you reach the higher ground. kahit hagdan lang.:p

  21. being on top has its own advantage, the problem is, once on top, you never want to go down.

  25. Supposedly you say if you are here at the top, "it’s a little bit more to reach the sky."
