San Jose City and the Smiling Monkey

There are five cities in Nueva Ecija and San Jose City is the third City to be chartered. Like most of the towns in Nueva Ecija, there are rich fields of palay in the area. The City is more commercialized than Palayan City but less developed compared to Cabanatuan City. There is also nothing much to do here but just hang-around and rest or have a picnic at Tayabo Nature Park. San Jose City thou is a good stop-over for those who wish to go farther north heading to either Ifugao or Isabela.

From what I have gathered from the Net, San Jose City is a 3rd class city (previously 2nd) in the province of Nueva Ecija. Of the province' five cities, it is the northernmost and closest to the Sierra Madre mountain range.

Before the Spaniards named it San Jose, the place was known as Kabaritan which is a plant commonly seen in the area. With its wide plains, agriculture is the main source of livelihood in the city. It is part of the rice granary of the Philippines. But the agricultural produce of the city also includes vegetables, fruits and onions. Every year the Tanduyong festival is held on April coinciding with the annual fiesta to celebrate bountiful harvest of onions. Tanduyong is a variety of onion grown in the area.

  17. Naks! Charlie is the attention getter!! Once you get to see his smile ( or wide grin), you forget the previous pictures. Charlie's smile is the only thing stuck in my mind.

Do you have to pay him to smile and pose like that? He seemed healthy and well taken cared of. I hope he is because when ever i see chained/caged animals, it somehow saddens me.

    thanks for sharing!!!

  67. just a correction, sir.... San Jose City is a 2nd Class City. the hierarchy of cities according to income class is arranged in descending order Class 1 being the highest and 5th class city is the lowest in order. cabanatuan is a first class city while san jose is a 2nd class city.
