A Corporate Slave’s Guide to Long Weekends of 2014

I am often asked how do I find time traveling several times a year without getting fired in my Corporate job. I often tell them that if you enjoy doing something, nothing should stop you from pursuing it. It is all about observing the balance between work and passion and proper time management.

With the official release of regular and special non-working holidays for 2014 by the Philippine government, we can now book our flights and schedule our leaves to enjoy long weekends that these eighteen holidays will bring.

Date 1 – January 31 to February 2, 2014 (Jan 31 is Chinese New Year while February 1 and 2 are weekends, so this will be a 3-day long weekend)

Date 2 – February 22 to 25, 2014 (File your Leave for February 24 to enjoy a 4-day vacation. Feb 22-23 are weekends while Feb 25 is EDSA Revolution Anniversary)

Date 3 – April 17 to 20, 2014 (4-day vacation in celebration of Holy Week)

Date 4 – May 1 to 4, 2014 (File your Leave for May 2 to enjoy a 4-day vacation. May 1 is Labor Day while May 3-4 are weekends.)

Date 5 – June 12 to 15, 2014 (File your Leave for June 13 to enjoy a 4-day vacation. June 12 is Independence Day while June 14-15 are weekends.)

Date 6 – August 21 to 25, 2014 (File your Leave on Aug 22 to enjoy a 5-day vacation. Aug 21 is Ninoy Aquino Day while August 25 is National Heroes Day. Aug 23-24 are weekends.)

Date 7 – December 25, 2014 to January 1, 2015 (File your Leave for Dec 29 to enjoy an 8-day vacation. Dec 24-26 are declared Christmas holidays, Dec 27-28 are weekends, Dec 30 is Rizal Day while Dec 31 is end of year holiday.)

Too bad, November 1 (All Saints Day) and November 30 (Bonifacio Day) fall on weekend but there are some Companies who allow their employees to check-off these dates in exchange of a regular day (like my Company) so these two days represent another opportunity for a long-weekend.

Also, separate proclamations will be issued for the observance of Eid’l Fitr and Eidul Adha so you can plan your additional vacation once these Muslim Holidays are declared.

    1. Yup. We should not let work get all our time. As they say, all work and no play makes Juan a dull boy :)

Pero seriously, that's what I do, file a leave next or after you restday.

Gracious, that is a lot of planning to get done!! Even if this amount of leave was available when I was in corporate work, each person would not be given all requested leave... they would want to share around the benefits with other staff. But hey, if you can do it - kudos!!

Thanks for dropping by my blog
. Wishing you the best for 2014...and those holidays! YAM xx
